Hello! I am a nurse who is working with a maternal health non-profit in Haiti to try to establish a medical records system for them. Can open EMR be downloaded from the internet and then used off-line? They have one office computer right now, and internet doesn’t always work. I will be training a Haitian to put the information into the computer. Also, can you run reports on open EMR that would allow you to see how many patients have hyptertension, etc? Thank you!
OpenEMR can be downloaded and used as a desktop application without an Internet connection. The easiest download to install is Option 1, Installation as service.
Working with the Demo will give you a good sense of the software.
To run reports for diagnoses, go->Menu->Reports->Clients->Clinical.
OpenEMR is available in French, but not Creole. The Development Demo has Standard French and Canadian French from the language drop down menu at the login page.
Thanks so much! You are so helpful! i have never done anything like this before; is there anything special security wise that I shoudl worry about? I am using Windows 8.
Some of the sections on Accounts Receivable and Meaningful Use are not applicable to your work in Haiti, but might come in handy for work Stateside.
Because of the tremendous work of many developers, ordinary folks and non-geeks are able to use and navigate OpenEMR with relative ease.
Most users probably have Windows operating systems; therefore, Windows 8 should be fine. Just like the fact that there is more software written for Windows in general; there are more OpenEMR backup methods for Windows users posted in the Wiki.
Always feel free to ask any question for which you cannot find the answer in the Wiki or old Forum posts.
