Calendar Questions

I am trying to set up OpenEMR for a doctors office with 3 offices and 4 doctors. The doctors have a regular rotation between the offices - i.e. Dr. A is at office 1 on every wed&thurs, Dr. B is a office 1 on every mon&thurs, etc, then Dr. A is at office 2 on every mon. Well - I tried to create a different series of ‘In Office’ calendar categories. So Dr. A at office 1 shows up one color and office 2 shows another color. And so on. But the 'In Office 1" and “In Office 2” that I created don’t work like the “In Office” does. If I do “In Office 1” it just shows up as a line - not an all day thing. I looked in the database - can’t see any differences in the fields for the Calendar Category or the appointment.

I may be completely over analyzing this and if I can’t get help on this if someone has a different way of handling this I would be thrilled!

These doctors also have hospital hours and nursing home hours and I’d love to be able to differentiate them for the staff - is this feasible?

Thanks much - michelle

The ‘In Office’ category is a special case to OpenEMR. It indicates when a practitioner is in the office. Even though you created a new category with a similar name it’s not handled the same way.

If you’re using the latest version of OpenEMR I can suggest a solution for you because we have a similar situation in our Agency.

1) Change your default calendar to the ‘Outlook’ style for each user. You can do this in the Admin screen when editing a user.
2) Create ‘In Office’ events for your Doctors and in the Comments field of the In Office event state which office they are in

When you view the calendar you should now see the In Office event with the comment (which is the name of the office) next to it.

I can elaborate further if needed, and when I have more time. Let us know if this is a good solution for your practice.

I set up OpenEMR for one doctor and 3 satellite offices this way.  I created a "provider" for each location such as:

Doc-Office1
Doc-Office2
Doc-Office3

The doctor is at Office1 on Monday (AM) and Wednesday (PM), at Office2 on Tuesday and Thursday in the afternoon, and at Office3 all day on Friday.  In the patient chart the "provider" is the doctor (i.e Michael Smith, MD).   I simply used "Doc-Office#" for locations.  We use the classic view (pink/blue).  Thus far this has worked.   However, the office has not yet begun to do billing with SQL Ledger in OpenEMR so I wonder how having the satellite locations as providers will impact billing, if at all.   The office plans to go live with billing in the next  30 - 45 days.  I am currently in the process of setting up testing with SQL-Ledger 2…8.17 with OpenEMR-2.9.0

Jason,
Your suggestion does work - I was just trying to do a color coding - so that for each of the 3 offices I would have a different color. When at the hospitals (2) for surgeries - that actually could be set up in the calendar categories - their surgery days are pretty much set in stone. But they also do work at various senior facilities. So - I like your idea and I appreciate your help.
