Calendar API

Is there a documented API for the calendar (Or some starting point to develop one). I would like to be able to add / remove / find appointments and patients programmatically . I can get new patients to show up by adding to the database, but the appointments are stumping me.

If you are accessing patient_data, could you not access openemr_postcalendar_events? Watch for recurring events.
