we are seeing this “Billing Note:IN COLLECTIONS 2012-10-07” when we open a patient chart. can some one tell me what this is and how this is getting there? I saw there is a user defined field under demographics that says Billing and IN COLLECTIONS 2012-10-07.

we are using openemr 4.1.1 patch 6.

Thank you

Venkat,

Someone ran the Report->Financial->Collections, select that patient (or more) and pressed the “Export To Collections” button.  They probably intended to press the “Export to CSV” button instead.

The field that was updated is for some really strange reason patient_data ‘genericname2’ and ‘genericval2’

This is an undocumented “feature” which causes issues if the user unknowingly decides to use those to fields, which are available as User Defined on the screen.

Really this need to be fixed so the collections flags are in fields of their own, perhaps called “In Collection” Y/N and “Date Sent To Collections”

The genericval2 is the patient billing note field under the EOB area of billing.  If you search the patients claim and click on the patients name it will bring up that box.  I find it very useful, because we enter billing notes and have fashioned those to print on patients statements as explanations.  Things like,  this balance was applied to your deductible etc.

It is useful, no doubt, it just should not be stuffed in a field that can be overwritten in the demographics page by default.  It should be it’s own thing.
