Best way to upgrade from 4.0.0 to 4.2.0?

I have done it. In fact I recently updated a system from 3.1.

You have do it one version step at a time and fix any errors your see. Usually it’s just the collation type in the language tables that stop it. They need to be manually fixed / converted utf8.

Easy if you don’t have customizations. Hard if you do.
