I’ve set up OpenEMR for a new, smallish clinic here. They are looking for a clearinghouse to use with OpenEMR. Right now we are using the calendar, and we’re moving rapidly toward billing.
We found freeclaims.com as a possible clearinghouse. It appears (if I’m reading thing correctly) that we can upload X12 claims to them. Has anyone here had any experience with them as a clearinghouse?
I have not used free claims as I’m currently using Post-n-Track for the bulk of my claims (they are free and service has been great). You might want to check them out.
I have used Freeclaims for a year or two for all medical claims other than Medicare and Blue Shield. They do handle Medicare and Blue Shield but charge 15 cents for each claim. Therefore I send Medicare and Blue Shield directly to save the 15 cents per claim. I don’t think they handle secondary claims. Even when I create the claim file, their system does not handle it properly.
I am currently using "Send Claim," a third party program that works with Medisoft. It is not necessary to get the newest and latest Medisoft in order to handle direct claims in this manner.
Recently I tried sending an office claim with Rod Roark’s current development version of OpenEMR, and the electronic claim worked fine through FreeClaims, and I actually got my check!
While the program works well out of the box for the Freeclaims clearing house, I found that sending the X12 files to Medicare directly was a bit trickier. Medicare edits look for a lot of little things that are not quite right with the program as it is.
I tweaked the following files a little and got an office Medicare claim to go through:
We just set up the openemr system and started using office ally as a clearing house. So far we are able to upload to them the x12 file, and started to receive payments from commercial companies. The medicare/medicaid line will need registration, which takes a few weeks; we have not send out any of those claims yet. It is free for any month 50% or less of your total claims are medicare/medicaid claims, otherwise it will be $20. Hui
