Allow patients to schedule their appts?

midder wrote on Monday, April 05, 2010:

Hello

Is it possible to use this system to allow patients to try and schedule their own appointments? If so, how would I go about doing that? Would it require that all patients had a username/password? Does anyone have any experience with this? Any workarounds, etc?

Thanks

It would require some significant development work to create a patient portal.  It would be great to have someone to sponsor that.

Thanks Rod

I expected that as the response. Have you (or others) given some thought on how this might work? What would be the requirement? There are obviously a lot of things to think about with this and I was wondering if those of you who are more experienced in the system (and EMR systems in general) had already given it some thought.

Thanks again for your reply.

Checking feature requests in the tracker (https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=60081&atid=493004), I don’t see it listed.  I’m not aware that anyone has given it a lot of thought yet, but this is a good place to start some discussion.

Hi,

Here are some basic requirements for the patient portal.

        * Appointment - set, view and reschedule the appointments
        * Forms - to be filled by the patients (eg: Blood pressure measurements,height/weight measurement, etc,.)
        * Message - for communication b/w physician and patient
        * Reports - viewing lab reports
        * Prescriptions - view their prescriptions
        * Sharing - sharing their records to others (once the person given permission to access)

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

FYI: Genbook.com has a fairly sophisticated free online booking system with a button to link from a web page that I have been using for quite a few years. A more robust version has a cost per month. I would utilize an OpenEMR interface, though. Dr. Ed Holmes, a new OpenEMR user.
