Hi guys,
Since we have the multi facility capability shouldn’t we have the option to allocate a patient to a facility, much like the choices of Doctor and Pharmacy?

Also, Rod,
What is the implication of enabling “Restrict Users to Facilities”?

Shameem, I didn’t create that feature and don’t know offhand what all of its implications are. Perhaps someone else can comment?
What exactly would it mean to allocate a patient to a facility? If you want complete separation, seems it would be better to have a separate database for each facility.
I’d say this discussion needs a more precisely defined goal.

Rod,
Not necessarily a database issue. A doctor goes to two different nursing homes(service facilities) where he sees patients. The patients are exclusive to each facility. He allows users in each of these facilities to enter information. He needs to restrict such users.

If you have a user tied to a facility then you might also restrict the info they can see about patients who have no encounter at that facility… in other words, let the encounters define that relationship and not try to create a new relationship. In this case your doctor would have to create an encounter at the desired facility in order to make the patient accessible to the other users at that facility.
Just a thought.

Sounds reasonable. Before I try and do anything I want to know who created that “Restrict” option and if they can shed some light on the extent to which it has been completed.
Anybody?

I’ve run across it, and in fact have a patch that extends it to ‘actually work’, and directions for using it.
Just haven’t had time to commit.
Right now I’m working on another patch…. too many patches. I’ll make sure to add this to my ‘clean up and get out there’ list for the weekend.

I’m responsible for that option.
It references the user_facility table to limit a regular user from seeing, say, the calendar from other facilities. We have some clients with a couple dozen locations and the calendar can get unwieldy. It’s also used on some of our report criteria forms to keep folks from getting data they shouldn’t be privy to. It didn’t seem like something that would easily fit into the ACLs.
The user_facility table (though poorly named) can also be extended to provide similar functionality to limit a patient to certain facilities. This would be useful where a practice has many providers and patient charts shouldn’t be seen (by default) at those offices… but having separate databases would not allow them to see the whole chart when they need it.
I’m probably not explaining this well in this tiny box but I’d be happy to ramble on with specifics if you like.

The tricky part here will be avoiding duplicated patients. Will a user who is restricted to a facility be allowed to create a new patient? If so, seems we need some logic to require entry of SSN and/or DOB (in addition to name) before allowing that or revealing a match. Probably knowing this info should also allow that user to create an encounter for the patient.

Whimmel,
Seems to me like tremendous work has gone into this. Also Julia says her’s works too. So is there a way to combine these two and contribute to the community? How can we compare notes from you two and cherry pick the best parts?
This feature would be great to a lot many practices. If there is anything more to be done to make this feature perfect we can really help.

Hello!!
This feature will be great…It will be helpful for a doctor having two or more facilities. Now its really confusing for a doc to know which patient belongs to which facility and there is a mixup of patients. It will be great if i can sort the patient accourding to the facility they belong and when i am in a 2nd facility i can see only the patients visiting the 2nd facility.
To Zhhealthcare,
Please look for the feature in the new payment module, where we can view the patient’s balance in a current encounter and also the pending balance in a small space as we select the patient from the dropdown list. Also if we can print a nice receipt of the payment from that module. It will complete the payment module really and will be a very good feature too. Please look into it.
