A Look into Why OpenEMR Is Pausing Its Meaningful Use III Efforts

Hi everyone,

I wanted to leave off some resources to provide a better understanding of why the OpenEMR community and the OEMR board are taking a break from Meaningful Use III development efforts:

This doesn’t mean that folks can’t implement aspects from MUIII or that the program is gone, it just means that it makes more sense to put energy into other projects that we all deem important. Such projects include FHIR, ub-04 billing, inpatient support, UI improvements, cTAKES chart summarization, and backend codebase modernization to mention a few!

Although this is a fairly political topic, I didn’t start this thread with the intention of starting a political dialog or expressing my personal opinion (everything I said is the result of decisions from the OEMR board and discussions I’ve had with folks in the community). Just wanted to point out the fairly obvious information that leads one to think that MUIII isn’t worth pursuing at this time.

I’m thinking FHIR is a pretty important part of M.U 3 anyway so, there is that.
