5.0.2 upgrade from 5.0.0.7 problems

I don’t see anything in the wiki or forums that walks one through the upgrade from 5.0 to 5.0.2 for Windows 10 addressing the need to upgrade php as well. Since 4.2.0 I have been using the Windows/XAMPP upgrade. I understand that package isn’t available yet for the 5.0.2 upgrade. Following the directions that are available going from 5.0.0.7 to 5.0.1.1 worked OK in test. We havn’t used 5.0.1.1 in production. Would like to go straight to 5.0.2. After going through the wiki for that upgrade I got an error that php7.x was needed. I installed the xampp update for Apache, Maria, PhP, and Perl. After that I unpacked the Openemr-5.0.2 update again and have an all new xampp/htdocs/openemr directory with the changes in the sites\default directory. Still cant get through the localhost sql_upgrade. My currrent error is “Check that mysqld is running.” I’m obviously missing something. Can anyone point me to some help?
